Many organisations working with parents often have the willingness and enthusiasm to get involved in consultations. However, they face challenges due to a lack of training, skills, or confidence in running these sessions.

The Consultation Toolkit has been developed to bridge this gap, equipping practitioners with the knowledge and resources they need to successfully engage parents and ensure their voices are heard on a range of issues.

What does the toolkit offer?

The toolkit provides information to help organisations run effective consultation sessions and focus groups with parents. It has been designed to make parental consultation more accessible and effective by providing: 

  • A range of resources to support engagement and involvement 

  • Creative techniques for engaging parents in consultations 

  •  Step-by-step guidance on planning and delivering focus groups 

  • Feedback forms and tools for gathering parents' views  

  • Printable resources to use in sessions 

The toolkit is aimed at professionals and organisations working with parents, including: 

  • Charities and community organisations supporting families 
  • Schools and educational institutions looking to improve parental involvement 
  • Local authorities and policymakers engaging with parents in decision-making 
  • Any organisation seeking creative methods to involve parents in consultations 

Launch Event 

To introduce the toolkit and demonstrate how it can be used effectively, Parents Connect Wales hosted a launch event on Tuesday, March 4th 2025. The session provided an overview of the toolkit, showcased its features and offered practical insights into how it can enhance parental consultation efforts. 

This toolkit provides an excellent opportunity for professionals to explore new ways to strengthen parental engagement and ensure parents’ voices contribute meaningfully to any discussions and policy and service development.
