Congratulations to Gavin who has won a £50 Amazon voucher in the Parents Connect Wales ‘For Every Family’ photo competition in celebration of National Parenting Week.

Throughout September and October 2024, Parents Connect Wales, a project by Children in Wales, used a creative way to reach out to parents to find out what makes their family special, unique or different.

We received a range of photos sharing unique insight into the special moments of family life in Wales.

The 7 key themes Parents Connect Wales encountered were:

  • Connection
  • Outdoors
  • Families come in all shapes and sizes
  • Young carers
  • Extended family
  • Family portraits
  • Embracing family life - special moments

Parents shared the exciting journey they embarked on as they both become parents and the journey beyond. The photos captivated the importance of enjoying those special moments as we received many photos of family holidays and days that highlight the importance of time away from day-to-day life.

Families embraced their differences and proudly shared how they felt their family was special and unique. We received photos of single parent families, kinship carers, large families, families with children with additional needs and many more. There was also a strong focus on the importance and inclusivity of extended family including grandparents, cousins and even pets!

We had a few entries recognizing the amazing bond and work of siblings in their role as young carers.

Whilst the winning draw was randomised, we were very touched by Gavin’s entry which was titled “Special memories - Family moments” - Simple, but poignant, it perfectly captivated the theme of the competition, and we are so excited to share it with you now.
