Welsh Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) attended the House of Commons for the Annual UK Youth Parliament Sitting on 28 February 2025, alongside MYPs from England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
With over 450 attendees, the debate was chaired by Mr Speaker and Madam Deputy Speaker, featuring guest speeches from MPs.
Children in Wales’ MYPs are:
- Cian (Caerphilly)
- Rhianna (Blaenau Gwent)
- Khandi & Lowri (RCT)
- Macey (Vale of Glamorgan)
- Evie (Carmarthenshire)
- Aoife & Ffion (Cardiff)
- Daniel (Wrexham)
Elected to represent their local authorities, this sitting marks the end of their first year as MYPs. They have been outstanding, demonstrating dedication both in their parliamentary roles and within their local youth councils.
These young people are passionate about children's rights in Wales and proud of their Welsh heritage. They strongly advocate for the Welsh language and culture, using their platform to highlight the fantastic work happening in Welsh local authorities. They are committed to ensuring that Welsh identity is recognised and celebrated on a UK level. At past Annual Conference debates, they have spoken out boldly about the importance of Welsh language and culture, and they did the same in the House of Commons.
Aoife (Cardiff), Wales’ Debate Lead, opened the discussion on one of the key topics. In total, five topics were debated, two of which ( votes for 16 and period dignity) will shape the UK Youth Parliament's campaign for 2025/26.
In preparation, MYPs have been honing their debate and speechwriting skills during the past two MYP Development Days. Their hard work and commitment have been truly commendable.
