A busy period!
All the information pointed to a General Election being in the Autumn and we had begun to put plans in place for that. But then…chaos, and, luckily, Kai to the rescue.
Group member Kai had voted for the first time at the Police and Crime Commissioner Elections held in May of this year and we had already decided to use this as a way of spreading information about the voting process. We followed up filming of Kai on the day of the vote with an interview about the experience, answering many of the questions that Young People had posed.
In quick succession, two more short films for Instagram were produced: one publicising the key dates for the General Election and then one to remind and encourage everyone eligible to go out and vote.
We also had a group meeting to look at resources produced by the Electoral Commission for the General Election and had a discussion around these and answered each other’s questions.
All in all, a busy but successful couple of months!
The group are having a quiet summer but will be picking up again in the Autumn to start planning for Welcome to Your Vote Week 2025 and the possibility to be involved in some research into democratic education and linking with our equivalent groups in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Get involved! – remember, Dinosaurs Couldn’t Vote But YOU CAN!
