Volunteer boards and groups

Get involved in our Boards and Groups

The Young Wales team works hard to create amazing opportunities for young people to get involved in, all year round. We have a variety of different boards and groups which meet together on a bi-monthly basis to work on their respective exciting projects, and they are made up of young people from all around Wales. Here’s some examples of the boards and groups you could get involved with as a Young Wales volunteer.

Here’s a quick look into what each board and group offers:

Young Carers’ Advisory Board

The Young Carers Advisory Group provide guidance to Welsh Government on developing advice and support directly for young carers. By joining this group, you will be invited to contribute to and shape activities that Welsh Government undertake with key partners and stakeholders to support young carers and young adult carers in Wales, placing children’s voices at the centre of decision making.

Mental Health and Wellbeing National Youth Stakeholders Group

The Mental Health and Wellbeing National Youth Stakeholders Group  is for young people with lived experience or a special interest in mental health and wellbeing. The group aims to address mental health issues shared by young people and review mental health and wellbeing initiatives by the Welsh Government and other organisations across Wales.  The types of work that you could get involved in includes; reviewing, developing and testing how Welsh Government are working to improve mental health and wellbeing services in schools, local authorities and health (like CAMHS).

LGBTQIA+ Group

Our LGBTQIA+ group offers a safe space for LGBTQIA+ young people and allies to discuss what issues matter to them, to review policies and practices and to make recommendations.  This group is open to anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+, or is an ally.

Young Person’s Guarantee Advisory Board

The Young Person’s Guarantee is the Welsh Government’s key commitment to everyone aged 16 to 24, living in Wales, with support to gain a place in education or training, and help to get into work or become self-employed. This group provides guidance and advice to Welsh Government on the progress being made under the Young Person’s Guarantee.

Social Justice & Climate Change Group

The Social Justice and Climate Change Group is focused on empowering young people to get their voices heard regarding the current issues impacting their lives, reflective of Article 12 of the UNCRC. The group works together to amplify young people’s voices and work towards a more equitable and environmentally conscious Wales for future generations.

Education & Training Group

The Education and Training Group are passionate about making sure young people in Wales have access to the best education and training opportunities possible. This group works with Welsh Government to share their thoughts on how youth education and training should look, and how we can achieve the best possible results. Their goal is to empower young people to reach their full potential, and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Feeling Safe (Online and in Relationships) Group

The Feeling Safe (Online and in Relationships) Group, formerly known as the Keeping Safe Online group, is all about making sure young people feel safe and respected both online, and in their relationships.
