Our Winter Magazine is officially live, focusing on the theme of "Mental Health Matters: Exploring Play, Digital Connections and Community Support for Young People.”
As discussions around babies’, children’s and young people’s mental health grow more urgent, this edition highlights the vital work being done across Wales to support them.
Our Chief Executive, Hugh Russell, introduces the magazine, reflecting on the significance of Children’s Mental Health Week and the role of young people in shaping conversations around their own wellbeing.
Among the features, Coleg Sir Gar explores the role of social media in shaping young people’s mental health, while Barnardo’s Cymru shares an inspiring story of a family’s journey through the Cardiff Family Wellbeing Service. Cardiff University's ADVOCACY study investigates how parents can advocate for their children’s safety in healthcare settings, and Platfform’s Power Up project demonstrates how young people are shaping mental health services in South Wales.
This issue also includes three key articles from Children in Wales: “Children and Young People and Mental Health” explores the broader landscape of youth mental health in Wales, “Empowering Young Voices” highlights the importance of children’s rights in shaping mental health services, and “The Impact of Poverty on Mental Health” examines how financial hardship affects the wellbeing of children and their families.
Additionally, Play Wales discusses the benefits of play on children’s mental wellbeing, while Psychologists for Social Change Cymru challenge traditional approaches to children’s mental health and advocate for a more holistic, strengths-based approach.
We extend our sincere thanks to all contributors and our members for their dedication to supporting babies’, children’s and young people’s mental health across Wales.
