Motivational Interviewing

Two-day course

“MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. Recording Skills for Safeguarding

Recording Skills for Safeguarding

One-day course

The ability to produce clear and objective documentation regarding child protection issues is arguably the most essential skill in the realm of safeguarding. All personnel engaged with children will, at some point, be required to document their concerns or recount specific incidents. Unfortunately, many staff members struggle with this task, often misidentifying injuries or failing to maintain objectivity in their documentation. They may inadvertently include subjective and judgmental remarks, which can diminish the evidential integrity of their records. This training session is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to enhance their recording abilities, reflect on the significance of their documentation, and comprehend the objectives behind creating safeguarding records.

The course seeks to equip participants with a deeper understanding of how to maintain objectivity and accurately document facts. It will encourage exploration and examination of the reasons behind concerns for a child's welfare. Participants will be urged to listen attentively to children, accurately record their statements, and provide them with the necessary space to express themselves. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on being aware of the audience for whom the recordings are intended. Participants will also be encouraged to be candid about any mistakes and the necessary corrections.

Safer Recruitment

Safer Recruitment

One-day course

All individuals engaged in the field of education must comprehend their roles and responsibilities in order to effectively recruit individuals who are well-suited for positions in nurseries, schools, and colleges, thereby ensuring the safeguarding of children and young people.

The course is structured to assist participants in recognising the significance of safe recruitment practices for both staff and volunteers. It incorporates relevant research, as well as legislative responsibilities and obligations.

The objective of the course is to instil confidence regarding the prevalence of abuse and the characteristics of abusers, as well as to elucidate how abusers function within organisations. It covers the essential elements of a safer recruitment process, the planning involved, making informed decisions during interviews and selection, establishing acceptable standards of conduct, and fostering a continuous culture of vigilance.

This course is intended for proprietors, governing bodies, governors, headteachers, human resources personnel, and any staff members who may participate in the recruitment of staff and volunteers within their institutions.

Supervision: A model for practice

Supervision: A model for practice

Two-day course

Our capacity to collaborate with others is, in part, influenced by the quality of support and oversight we receive. Participants will be equipped to systematically connect the identification of training and supervision requirements, support mechanisms, and performance evaluations into a cohesive framework that benefits both the individual and the organisation.

Upon completion of the course, participants will comprehend the significance of supervision within an organisational framework. They will recognise the various components and functions of supervision, employ engagement skills to foster a supportive relationship that facilitates the supervision process, and learn how to cultivate an environment conducive to safe, challenging, exploratory, reflective, and analytical discussions while prioritising the well-being of staff members. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice the skills necessary for both providing and receiving reflective supervision. They will gain insight into the risks and implications associated with the supervision process, as well as the responsibilities of supervisors. Additionally, they will understand the obligations of supervisees and clarify their roles in enhancing the effectiveness of supervision. Consideration will also be given to the dynamics within integrated teams.

This course is intended for individuals tasked with the supervision of other staff members.

Wellbeing, Pressure and Stress in the Workplace

Wellbeing, Pressure and Stress in the Workplace

One-day course

This workshop aims to equip participants with a thorough and detailed understanding of wellbeing and stress in the workplace. Attendees will have the chance to assess their current levels of wellbeing and stress. Through practical exercises, participants will create their own “toolbox” of strategies and techniques to sustain their wellbeing at work. In addition to enhancing their ability to monitor their own wellbeing and stress, participants will learn to recognise signs in others that may indicate unhealthy levels of wellbeing or stress.

The objective is to comprehend the nature of stress and to understand resilience, including its depletion, development, and maintenance. By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to define stress, understand the stress reactivity cycle, identify stressors and their effects on individual health and wellbeing, and recognise the impact of stress in the workplace. They will also learn to assess the primary sources of stress in their lives and explore ways to mitigate these stressors. Furthermore, participants will gain insights into resilience, its role in managing stress, and methods for its development. They will experience effective techniques for responding to stress and enhancing resilience, as well as identify strategies for fostering greater resilience both individually and within teams. Participants will also create a personalised stress management plan.

This workshop is suitable for anyone seeking to manage workplace pressures more effectively, regardless of their current stress levels.
