Youth Homelessness

One-day course Youth homelessness remains a significant issue for professionals engaged with this demographic. Young individuals experiencing homelessness, residing in temporary housing, or living independently are increasingly being targeted by gangs for drug trafficking and the takeover of their living spaces, a practice known as cuckooing. The training program will delve into the topic of youth homelessness, addressing the underlying causes, current trends, and the effects of existing Housing and Homelessness legislation in Wales. It will also cover methods to support homeless youth and tackle related issues such as substance abuse, Child Sexual Exploitation, and Child Criminal Exploitation, along with strategies for safeguarding these vulnerable individuals. The training will focus on the impact of early childhood trauma, the challenges associated with leaving home, and the most effective trauma-informed support approaches. This will be conducted through a rights-based framework. Participants will achieve several learning outcomes, including a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to youth homelessness, strategies for supporting homeless young people, and the ability to identify those at risk of Sexual and Child Criminal Exploitation. Additionally, they will gain insights into safeguarding practices for homeless youth. This course is designed for practitioners, managers, and policymakers across various sectors and organisations who are interested in enhancing their efforts to assist homeless or at-risk young individuals. It will also involve an examination of relevant legislation and ways to empower young people to assert their rights.
