Neglect: Effective responses

One-day course This course will examine the effects of neglect and the long-term repercussions on development and outcomes. It is essential for agencies to recognise the significance of meaningful and effective multi-agency collaboration. A central focus of the session will be to question individual judgments and employ tools that facilitate objective decision-making regarding the child's impact. The trainer will emphasise the necessity of using factual language to concentrate on the 'lived experience' of children. Medical neglect will be illustrated through an animation depicting nonattendance at appointments, using the phrase 'Was not brought' instead of 'Did not Attend,' thereby underscoring the detrimental effects on children from missed appointments, including the absence of therapeutic interventions, ongoing pain, and lack of medication. Participants will investigate various forms of neglect through case studies, which will include instances of emotional, disorganised, and depressed neglect. They will consider the behaviours of both parents and children in these scenarios and reflect on the challenges faced by practitioners attempting to implement change. Additionally, delegates will engage in practicing recording skills by analysing photographs of actual neglect cases, identifying risks, and determining necessary changes.
